New Year's Eve

So, what is a typical New Year's Eve project?  Making sauerkraut of course!

Larry brought me 100 pounds of cabbage in November and it has been in the cellar, waiting to be made in to kraut.  Today, with extra help on hand, seemed like a perfect day to do this project.  Plus, David has never made sauerkraut before, so it was a fun and interesting activity for him!  He was quickly dubbed "the smasher"!

David trying his hand at shredding!  Hopefully he won't lose a finger!

Baxter loved the cabbage cores!
We ended up with about 14 gallons of kraut.  Now it will brew for six to eight weeks and then I will hot water bath process it in pint and quart jars.

Have a very happy and safe New Year's Eve!

Getting Started!

I have been saying that I wanted to write a blog, for months, nay years.  Today, Alicia and I are home alone (she is home on holiday break) and she suggested that we figure out how this whole blog thing works.  So, here goes.....

Happy at first, eager to learn.....

thinking really hard

K, wait, how does this work?

TECHNOLOGY!!!!

well....

maybe this wasn't such a good idea...

ok, so these were staged photos, but it's pretty much how I feel right now, trying to remember.  It's all second nature to Alicia.   Second nature to me is pulling a weed in the garden!  But, I'm going to try.

My intent and desire is to share casual, every day, Rolinco Road happenings.  Well, there may be some off Rolinco Road events as well, but mostly, just what is going on here on the farm.

I anticipate frequent postings for a bit, until I get the hang of this.  Plus, it's my farm break time, so I find myself with more time to putter.  Let's see how it goes!
