Oregon Coast

This past Sunday we traveled to Hood River Oregon, and then Monday, on to Lincoln City, Oregon to spend a few days resting and recharging before we head in to late fall farm work.  We took this journey with Chemyn and Louise, who go every year, and were gracious enough to invite us to join them this year.

The view from Hood River.  This is the Button Bridge that crosses the Columbia River at Hood River.

Curiosity got the better of us when we saw this on the dessert menu at the Blackfish cafe where we had lunch on Monday, before we could check in to our rental home.  It was labeled as Ding Dong with a berry syrup.

Remember Hostess Ding Dongs?  Well, these were a very remote cousin to those.  I think the only similarity is in the name.

Any question about whether we liked it or not?  Both Chemyn and I plan to try this at home!

The weather was spectacular three of the five days that we were on the coast, unusual for this time of the year.  We really enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the afternoon, with a glass of wine and the sun on our face.

Louise set right to work, organizing the kitchen, so that she could efficiently prepare meals.  I had to laugh, because if she had not done it, I probably would have!

The view from our deck.  Notice the RV park in the photo.  Guess who would like to return with the SS Rolinco?

Morning coffee and a pillow to remind us where we were, as if we needed to be reminded with the ocean waves right outside our door.
Reynald and Baxter enjoying the afternoon sun.

Long walks on the beach with dogs, and superb meals prepared by Louise rounded out a restorative time away from the farm.

Ocean waves, relentlessly crashing to the shore.

Louise and Birch.  Birch wore a jumpsuit to keep the sand from gathering in her very thick and lush coat.  It worked!

Chemyn and Tucker!

Baxter kept me moving right along!

People and dogs on the beach!

One section of the beach had these beautiful pebbles instead of sand.  I gathered several that caught my eye to put in a little dish at home.

We walked to this rock formation each day.  So pretty.

Reynald and Baxter climbed to the top of that rock formation.

Louise and Birch resting after the long walk, before we head back to our rental home.

Best restaurant in town, by chef Louise.  Crab stuffed chicken breast, roasted sweet peppers, sprouted rice and quinoa mix, fresh carrot sticks and a glass of chardonnay.  Ahhhh.....

A couple family photos, an interesting speed limit sign and a sunrise and a sunset to finish this post. So much beauty in our world.

Chemyn and Tucker and Louise and Birch.

Ron, Baxter and me!

16 mph?

Sunrise looking out on to the ocean!  Interesting how the western sky was so illuminated by the sun rising in the east.

And one of the beautiful sunsets that we experienced, over ocean waves instead of amber waves of grain.

  1. It looks like you had a fun and well-deserved break from all your work! Beautiful pictures. I really liked the way you framed the rocks.
