Harvest Profile Part 3

Reynald's brother Doug aka Uncle Doug, is driving combine for us again this year.  We had such fun with him as part of our crew last year, and this year proves to be the same.

Uncle Doug is patient and calm.  He has a curious mind and asks lots of questions, about all different kinds of things.  His brain is full of useless trivia that he is happy to share.  Things like TV commercial jingles from the 70's, movie facts, family history and more!  It's' really fun to listen when he and Reynald get going on "remember when......."  Uncle Doug has a happy and cheerful disposition which we all appreciate.

Here are a few photos of Uncle Doug this morning when he, Reynald and Alicia were changing the fan belt and pulley on his combine.

Descending the ladder after the belt replacement this morning.

Uncle Doug and Reynald examining the worn belt.  These two get on so well.

Uncle Doug's lunch pail  This is the only way I can tell Uncle Doug from Reynlad.  Uncle Doug's is blue and Reynald's is red!

We finished at Pumpkin Center this afternoon and moved to the home place.  While we were moving, Reynald noticed that Uncle Doug's combine had a flat tire.  It was the inside dual, so it was fine to continue to the home place where we could have it repaired.  A nice young man from the Les Schwab tire store arrived with a new tire and tools!  What a job.  It would have to be an inside dual!!!

Les Schwab's the place with tires for you!

First Skylar took the outside tire off, then he tried to break the bead on the damaged tire.

Try as they might, Uncle Doug and Skylar could not get the tire off the rim.

So, Skylar got out the boom and with a little effort, the tire and rim were removed.

Now for more bead breaking!  Poor Skylar, this is brutal work and it was 95 degrees out.  Good to be young for jobs like these!

Now to get the tire off the rim, which they did, but that's when I had to go back to work!
I had to go haul a load of grain to town, so didn't get a photo of the job finished, but the tire is indeed replaced and Uncle Doug is ready to hit the ball first thing tomorrow morning.

P.S. if you think car tires are expensive...........whew!  Hang on to your check book for a combine tire!

  1. Sorry about the tire! Those are such bummers!

You have it spot on with Papa Dougie- patience abounds with that one. If only more of that virtue would rub off on my soul.

I love your posts. You warm my heart, and some days it's a much needed salve for a homesick heart.
