I dug up our garlic crop a couple days ago. Washed the bulbs, laid them in the sun to dry and then braided them in to strands to hang in the cellar. We will be able to hold off the vampires!
Meanwhile, over at the shop, Reynald and Alicia are putting the finishing touches on harvest prep.
And, the corn is finally growing and is almost as high as Paula's eye! Oh what a beautiful morning.

Just around the corner.....
Our wheat harvest is just around the corner. We're planning a soft start, with just the three of us, on Thursday then full steam ahead on Friday with all the crew.
In the meantime, we've been rod weeding the summer fallow, doing last minute repairs on the combines, washing equipment, doing much needed yard and garden maintenance, picking and processing more sweet cherries and pie cherries than a person really should, and enjoying some gorgeous sunrises and sunsets.
Stay tuned for a harvest report!!

Rod weeders and our Indy tractor. This is just after I finished with this field. |
I made our crew wheat themed face masks for harvest from left over fabric from another project! |
I've been deadheading roses and spent perennials. It looks like the Tasmanian Devil tore through my yard! |
Arthur tractor and grain cart, both combines and the two semi trucks and trailers, parked and ready for action. |
This is one of the days that we were picking cherries. It was so pretty. I never tire of this view. |
Last week we had a couple spectacular sunrise mornings. |

Sun rise, sunsets, scarecrows and a few flowers.....
Volunteer daisies and lavender around the compost bins |
And around the propane tank. Our honey bees are going crazy on the lavender! |
Front porch sittin' at the end of the day. |
Paula is happily looking over the garden. Volunteer larkspur at her feet and an out of control bee garden behind her. |
Beer on the porch, sunset lighting up the sky.....a perfect way to end the day. |
And equally as spectacular are the sun rises, though you have to get up fairly early these days to catch one! |

Me and my shadow
Alicia is fertilizing our summer fallow fields for the 2021 crop. We will seed this ground in September. Reynald is hauling product for her. I am following up with the coil packer. Next up, harvest prep! We're about 3 weeks away from that project.
The fertilizer crew. |
Dad giving some advice! |
Filling from the truck in to the applicator tank. |
We have a three inch hose for filling which makes quick work of this process. |
Towards the end of the fill, Alicia watches the top of the tank to make sure it gets as full as possible without running over. |
Reynald stands by the pumping motor to turn it off at her signal. |
My farm girl! |
And I'm following up with the coil packer to level the seed bed and settle the fluff. |
We've all been working some pretty long hours to get this job finished up. Reynald and Alicia finished their job on Friday and I finished this afternoon. Good to finished. |

Spring wheat
A few photos of the spring wheat crop around our house. When we planted in April, the outlook for this crop was not good. It was terribly dry and we weren't expecting much of a crop. It started to rain the end of May and well in to June, and it's been fairly cool these last several weeks, all good for developing crops. It's not in the bin yet, but it's sure looking good so far!
