The big project...

So here's where we want to end up.....

This is our current set of drills.   56 feet of 14 inch split packers with an air delivery cart.

And here's where we are starting!  We have the privilege of farming a few more acres this coming year, which makes us think we need to add to our seeding equipment.  Our plan is to make an identical unit to the one we are already using.

So, we are taking 13 drills and taking them apart and putting them back together to make 7!
This is what they look like from the back, before we start disassembling.

And from the front.  This particular drill is from a set of 5 that were my dad's.

First we take the box off.  This holds the seed.  We don't need this because we are using the air cart to deliver seed and fertilizer to the opener.

Me driving Kenny to take the box to the bone pile.

Next, nearly everything else has to be removed until there is nothing but the frame left.

Baxter is always willing and happy to help!

You can see that we have removed the packer wheels and everything else.  All that remains is the frame.

Me and faithful Kenny again, taking the packer wheels outside.  We will re-use these packer wheels but first they have to have some repair.  We're just moving them outside right now, to give us a little more room inside.

Again, the empty frame that will soon have new packer wheels, and boots and points and, and and.....
Reynald is obsessive about keeping the shop clean as we work.  There's almost as much sweeping and picking up as there is tearing apart!

And horror of horrors.,,,,,if any hydrualic oil or any other grease gets on the floor it must be cleaned up immediately!  I actually like this trait!  If you ever let this oil and grease mess go, it will get tracked all over the shop and on to shoes and will eventually make it's way over to the house!

Baxter had enough of the noise of air wrenches and hammers pounding on metal.

He took advantage of a warm and sunny day and spent the morning dozing in the sun, outside, on the gator seat!
Stay tuned for progress reports as we finish our tear down and begin the rebuild!  It's actually a pretty fun job, though a little overwhelming unless you just look at the small picture.  We have Christmas music going through pandora and the shop is warm and clean.  We have the proper tools and Reynald has the expertise.  I'm a good hired man and I'm starting to figure out what the next two steps are, before I am told!
