Boston in November

We returned from Boston late last night.  The main reason for the trip was to shop for a wedding dress and to get started with event planning!  David's parents joined us at Centre street on Friday night and the ideas were flying!!!

Before we arrived in Boston, we had to leave Spokane!

In the main terminal of the airport, you can see this wonderful art installation by Louise Kodis.

Louise used clouds as her inspiration for these amazing pieces that are suspended from the ceiling.

I can't remember how many pieces there are......quite a few.  You could spend a great deal of time looking at each one.

And here's Roni........starting the search for her dress.  Where to start?

Speaking of Centre street, when ever David isn't helping with dinner, or dishes, or other projects like making salsa or applesauce, he has this guitar in his hands!

Hanging out at Centre street.  David can't keep this guitar out of his hands!  It's lovely.  He just kind of noodles away, in the background, just quiet, beautiful music.

And speaking of not being able to keep things out of ones hands......I finished this cross stitch project during this visit.  I started it three or four visits ago.  Need to think of what my next Centre Street project will be!

The kids took us out to dinner Saturday night.  We went to an Asian Fusion restaurant and it was so good!  Was kinda fun to be out with the younger crowd in the city!!!
A Boston sunset!

Me and Alicia and the sunset

One more view as the sun sets even further.

Sunday afternoon we went to a concert at the Gardner museum.  It was of course fabulous and fun to see Alicia in action!

Alicia manning the door at Calderwood Hall.

Humans aren't the only music makers at the Gardner.  This little guy is named Whistler and he was singing his lungs out in the reading room at the museum.

Alicia's office space.  Grandpa made this standing desk for her, which she loves!

Monday morning we took a walk around Jamaica Pond.  It's such a pretty place.  Even on a Monday morning, the path around the pond was full of folks walking, jogging, walking their dogs, pushing children in strollers etc.  It was a bright and crisp fall morning, perfect for a walk.

Reynald and his girls.

Mom and dad on this silly bench!

Alicia took this image of Roni.  I love it!

A jogger headed to the path around the pond.  You can see that most of the leaves have fallen from the trees, which I find almost as beautiful as when they are on.

All over Boston are theses fabulous rock walls.

Monday afternoon, when Roni and Alicia had to go to work, Reynald and I went back to downtown Boston to see if we could find something for me to wear to the wedding.  We didn't, but it was fun shopping in small boutiques and just wandering up and down Newbury street.

This is an art installation on the outside of this building in downtown Boston.  It showed up overnight, and no one, except the building owner and the artist knew it was happening!

Here's a closer look.  Apparently there is some debate as to what it actually depicts.

And here's the view from the girls living room.  The square building on the left is the Prudential, aka The Pru!

This just gives some reference to where the girls live in relation to downtown Boston.  Not very far!

This was a peaceful protest, proceeding down Newbury street.  I don't think I have ever witnessed a protest, so I took a photo!

We took a couple hours Tuesday late morning to walk about at the Arnold Arboretum.  I LOVE this place.  If I lived in Boston I would work here, either for a wage or for free.....wouldn't matter as long as I got to be there!

There was still some frost on the grass in a shaded area.  The sun shining through made it look like a billion diamonds!

Here's a tree that hasn't completely shed it's leaves.  So very pretty, both the tree and Alicia!

This gives you an idea of the expanse of the park.

More of the expanse of the arboretum.

I must have this plant.  This one we saw on our walk to Jamaica Pond.

Then we found it at the arboretum and took a picture of the tag.

Just a pretty fence some place in the arboretum.

This oak leaf hydrangea was spectacular.  It makes mine look really really awful!

Alicia camouflaged in a red maple.  She knit this hat and it was almost the exact color of the leaves!

K, here's my Boston job.....working at the arboretum.

We returned home Tuesday evening to the aftermath of a terrible wind storm that hit wide portions of Oregon and Washington.  We were very lucky to get home, given the weather conditions both in Spokane and Minneapolis.  This morning I took photos of the damage at the end of Rolinco Road.  But, we're not complaining.  So many people have suffered far worse than we have. We;ll clean up and move forward.  Look for photos tomorrow.......
