Drills moved out!

And the combines moved in.

Yesterday we put the finishing touches on the indoor work on the the drills.  Today we moved them out of the shop and lined them up, ready for the hitch.  There's still a lot of work to do to get these field ready, but we've made progress.  Nice to have at least this much accomplished.

We moved the drills out, cleaned up and put away all the extra parts and tools, swept the floor, ate lunch and then moved the combines in!  It feels like we are racing against time, and well, I guess we are.  Spring is fast approaching, though with all the rain that has been falling, we will not be in the field any time soon.  So, we are getting as much done before the fields dry and we can start working the soil for spring seeding.

Take a look at what went on in and out of the shop today.....

All seven drills are ready to be moved out of the shop.

The straw pickers are all on.  They are so heavy to lift in to place.  I'm almost too old for this job!

Here's a closer look at the straw pickers.  I think I've mentioned their role on the drills.  They help drag the straw through and between the packer wheels to avoid a plug up.

Then we attached the hydraulic lift arms.  You can see the front receiving bracket/hole.   It's kind of hard to see the back hole in this photo.

This is the back receiving bracket for the hydraulic cylinder.

Now this was another tricky thing to put on.  The hitch point bracket.  It's also heavy and there is a long rod that slides (well is supposed to slide!) through this metal tube.  This is what we call a swearing project, because there's lots of swearing going on when we are trying to get everything lined up and attached!

Two drills outside.

I drove Kenny with the drill hanging from the loader bucket.  Reynald attached the drills with chains to the bucket.  Then I drove to the place where we were lining them up, and he detached.

Seven 14" split packer drills, ready to be attached to a Stoess hitch, and a whole bunch of hoses and electrical wires for shaft monitors etc.  This will be a mid May project.

When we opened up the big shop doors to move the combines, there was sudden fluttering of wedding confetti floating down from somewhere.  Made us smile!!!

A few pieces of wedding confetti.  It just keeps showing up here and there!

One combine in the heated side of the shop.

And now two!

Just combined!

Ready for Matt, our John Deere mechanic to show up tomorrow morning to do a little combine repair work.  Reynald will work with Matt on this project.  I get the day off!

And, to end our day, this rainbow.  I never get tired of seeing a rainbow.
