Jundt Art Museum

Last night we had the privilege of attending the opening of a new exhibit at the Jundt Art Museum on the campus of Gonzaga University in Spokane WA.  Louise Kodis, a generational family friend, and as near to family as one can be, with out being biologically connected,  is the featured artist.

Louise gave a wonderful gallery opening talk, titled "Who am I and where did I come from?"  Of course we knew where she came from....just up the road a piece, but the "where did I come from?" encompassed more than the physical "where did I come from?" which was terribly interesting.
Entrance to the Jundt Art Museum on the Gonzaga University campus.

The title of the show!

Chemyn, Louise's daughter, put together a wonderful slide show to accompany Louise's story.  The first photos was of the railroad depot in Harrington.

Louise made new yard banners to decorate the stage where her presentation took place.

A very interesting interview followed Louise's slide show and story.  My apology for not remembering the name of the interviewer.  She is the director of the art department of Gonzaga University and did a great job of capturing the essence of Louise's artistic journey.

I took some photos, to wet your appetite and hopefully entice you in to taking some time in the next few months, to stop by the Jundt museum and take in this show.  It truly is awe inspiring.
Banners hung to form a promenade.  Some of these banners have been displayed in our barn at concerts.  Some were made new for this show.

This show was a retrospective of Louise's long career.  You get to glimpse in to the creative process that she uses to create her work.

Also included are numerous proposals submitted for public work projects.

Proposals that were accepted, as well as rejected are included.

Again, examples of the process.

Then mock ups made with scraps of fabric before starting on the actual piece of art.

Another example of a proposal.  Louise has always had a dog, so many times a paper dog appears as part of the proposal!
There is so much beauty in our world.  What a treat to know that there are people that have the gift of capturing art and presenting it in such a pleasing way.

Louise has more ideas in her head to create and share.  She continues to take commissions for both public and private work.  Take a brief tour through the last 40 years of a tiny portion of her creative life by dropping in at the Jundt.  I know you will find it inspiring and go home and create something beautiful in your own unique and personal way.
