Mammoth Hot Springs

Our final day in Yellowstone we drove to Mammoth Hot Springs.  Yet another jaw dropping geological phenomena.

Even with the hot springs, it was chilly enough to form ice on this bench!

This photo was taken from the lodge at Mammoth.  It looks like the hillside is on fire!

We also went to the north entrance of the park where the Roosevelt Arch is located, welcoming visitors.  We are so grateful for the visionaries who deemed preservation of unique landscapes worth the time and effort to save for all our enjoyment.

Little Oliver going through the Roosevelt Arch.

Poor little Oliver has never been this dirty.  We had to drive through some road construction and it had snowed overnight.  The snow was melted, but the road was wet and muddy.

On our way back to West Yellowstone we traveled through some amazing country.  Mountains framing wide open valleys.  This was by far, my favorite scenery in the park.

  1. Can you imagine what Lewis and Clark must have thought when they saw this for the first time.
