Busy Day

It was a busy day today on Rolinco Road.  Some really good news.....our blue roof is gone!  Yesterday the workers from Jimmy's roofing arrived and they have been working like crazy.  Seems like they really mean business this time.  They are a happy crew, singing and joking and having a wonderful time as they work.  Kind of a "whistle while you work" attitude.

Blue tarp missing from the roof and now on the ground to collect the old shingles that the crew is removing.

This is kind of a cool shot of the truck with the built in crane that loads the new shingles on to the roof.  Can you imagine doing this without this crane?

The boys make a terrible mess tearing off the old shingles but by the end of the day it's all cleaned up!

Yesterday I pickled six jars of asparagus.  It will be a few weeks before we can open the jars.  They need to sit a spell and pickle!  I'll probably get another box of asparagus the next time I go to Spokane to do up.  I haven't done this for a few years and have missed having it.

The first batch of pickled asparagus.

Reynald was spraying roundup in the field right behind the house today.  I took a photo of the beautiful sky with the windmill and our new yard ornament, with Reynald and the tractor and sprayer in the background.  The sulky plow, that is our latest hardscape addition, was one that my grandpa Cy used!  Quite a contrast to the equipment we use now, several feet wide with  hydraulics, pulled by a very comfortable tractor using satellite guidance to steer, instead of a horse!  I'm happy this plow is for decoration, not for use!

Such a pretty sky today.  You can see the tractor and sprayer way in the background .

Here's a close up of the sulky plow.  I need to ask my dad why it's called a sulky plow?  I planted some sweet peas around the wheels yesterday so they can grow up and around and fill the air with their wonderful fragrance all summer.

I spent the day today, between hauling water to my spray boy, pruning roses.  I have six more to do, plus pick up all the canes from the pruning today.  I hope to finish tomorrow.  It's supposed to be fairly warm, and NO WIND!!!   We should finish spraying tomorrow as well.  Fingers crossed!!!!

The north flower bed with piles of rose canes waiting to be picked up and hauled to the burn pile behind the barn.

Here's a closer look at piles that I made today.  Much easier to make the piles than to pick them up!

And finally, here are a few shots of the sun setting on the house with shingles in packages, ready to be applied tomorrow.  All ready, it looks better than the blue tarp, and much more quiet when the wind blows.  That tarp flopping and flapping in the wind all winter made for some sleepless nights.

The house looks better all ready!  And look, the mess is all cleaned up by the end of the day.

Shingles are all loaded on the roof and ready to be installed, starting tomorrow.

And the sun sets on another day on the farm.

  1. Getting rid of those shingles seemed a bit messy, but it’s good to know that the guys were able to clean it up right away— with the help of the tarp. Anyway, how is your roof doing nowadays? I hope things it’s still in good shape. Thanks for sharing this with us, Linda. Have a great day!
